Alexandra gown

Paloma in No Time to Die, 2021 — as worn by Ana de Armas

Ana de Armas appears as Paloma in the promotional character poster for No Time to Die rather than in a narrative scene from the finished film.

The poster

Ana de Armas appears as Paloma in the promotional character poster for No Time to Die rather than in a narrative scene from the finished film. Set against a dark studio backdrop, she is shown alone in a poised, front-facing, action-ready stance that turns the Michael Lo Sordo Alexandra gown into the entire focus of the image. The poster works as Paloma’s formal introduction in the campaign, linking her directly to the film’s Cuba black-tie mission while presenting the dress as the visual shorthand for that entrance.

That choice matches how the costume was conceived for the character. Costume designer Suttirat Anne Larlarb said Paloma goes to a black-tie gala in Cuba and needed a phenomenal navy gown by Michael Lo Sordo that still allowed her to fight, placing elegance and physical capability side by side. Michael Lo Sordo has said he first realized his design was being used in a Bond film when he saw this character poster, which underscores how central the image became to the gown’s identity.

In this moment, the Alexandra gown signals Paloma as polished, glamorous, and fully operational at once. The poster frames the dress front-on so its liquid silk-satin surface catches the light in long, clean highlights. The plunging neckline, narrow crossover straps, and high slit register immediately against the stark background, while the low-key lighting isolates her silhouette and keeps attention on the gown’s sleek line. The result is a controlled, high-contrast image that sells both motion and polish in a single still.

Archive — the object

Michael Lo Sordo’s Alexandra gown comes from the Australian designer’s eponymous label, which the brand dates to 2006. On its own site, Michael Lo Sordo describes the house as focused on statement pieces refined from season to season, with an emphasis on quality, textiles, and a romantic-minimalist point of view. That background fits the Alexandra particularly well: it is one of the brand’s signature evening shapes, and the silhouette remained important enough to stay in the line after its screen appearance. For Paloma in No Time to Die, the Alexandra appears in navy silk satin, cut on the bias for a slim slip shape with a plunging neckline, crossover straps, an open back, full lining, a concealed side zip, and a train hem.

Michael Lo Sordo’s current product page describes the fabric as liquid silk-satin and the fit as lightweight and fluid. Film-sale documentation for the production-used dress adds a notable distinction from the retail description, identifying the screen-worn gown as having two front leg slits rather than one. Coverage tied to the film and the official charity sale around the Bond franchise identifies this as Paloma’s gown for the Cuba black-tie sequence, and Christie’s cataloged one example as one of four Alexandra gowns worn by Ana de Armas for the role, with the others retained in the EON archive.

The same navy dress was also used in Paloma’s character poster, which helped fix the look in the film’s promotional imagery as well as on screen. Its afterlife has been unusually direct. Michael Lo Sordo later reissued the style as the Bond 007 Paloma Maxi Dress in navy, while also continuing to sell Alexandra dresses in related versions and colors. The brand’s current store lists both the Bond-branded Paloma dress and Alexandra variants, showing how the costume moved from film wardrobe into the label’s active eveningwear offering and collector-minded Bond merchandise.
