The scene

In No Time to Die’s Norway sequence, James Bond wears the Crockett & Jones Molton as the ambush outside Madeleine Swann’s family home turns into a flight through the woods. After driving Madeleine and Mathilde away from the house, Bond leaves the road and moves them into a bleak, wet forest, using trees, brush, and the broken ground as cover while gunmen and vehicles press in behind them. The moment is not staged as a clean showdown but as a tactical withdrawal across hostile terrain, with Bond protecting two civilians while navigating mud, moisture, and uneven footing in the dark brown rough-out suede chukka boots.

The Molton helps define Bond’s register in Norway: less ceremonial, more improvised, but still controlled. Crockett & Jones identified Molton as the style Bond wears when the story moves to Norway, describing it as a plain-fronted three-eyelet chukka in dark brown rough-out suede with Dainite rubber soles, a model intended for hard wear in winter conditions. Costume designer Suttirat Anne Larlarb said Bond’s shoes remain part of his “perfectly elegant comportment in all situations,” and Bond’s Norway clothing was also described as something he would have grabbed in a hurry, without time to plan, which suits the urgency of this escape.

On screen, the boots read dark and practical against the washed-out Norway palette. The rough-out surface absorbs the cold, diffuse light of the misty woodland rather than flashing, while the low, sturdy profile keeps them grounded in medium and full-body action framing as Bond runs, crouches, and pivots through the undergrowth.

The object

Founded in Northampton in 1879 by Charles Jones and James Crockett, Crockett & Jones remains one of the defining English makers of Goodyear-welted footwear, with production still centered in its own Northampton factory. The company’s long history of military and expedition bootmaking sits comfortably behind the Molton, a model that channels that practical side of the house more directly than its dressier Bond-associated shoes. By the time No Time to Die went into production, Crockett & Jones had already supplied footwear for Skyfall and Spectre; in 2020 it formalized that relationship through an official partnership with EON Productions. The Molton is a plain-fronted three-eyelet chukka boot in dark brown rough-out suede, built on Last 336 in standard E fitting.

Crockett & Jones describes the style as a classic chukka with Dainite rubber soles, while its Bond material emphasizes the dense, waxed rough-out surface chosen for robust use. That combination of rough-out suede, storm welt and studded rubber sole gives the boot a deliberately weather-ready profile, and the square, generous proportions of Last 336 keep it from reading as a delicate desert boot. In No Time to Die, the Molton is the pair Bond wears when the story moves to Norway. Crockett & Jones states that costume designer Suttirat Anne Larlarb specifically requested the Molton in rough-out suede, and the brand identifies it as the practical boot selected for the film’s cold-weather action.

Within the broader Bond wardrobe, it serves as the hardier counterpart to the sleeker Highbury shoe also supplied for the production. The film gave the Molton an afterlife beyond the screen. Crockett & Jones now describes it as world-renowned after its Bond appearance, and later introduced a black rough-out version after the dark brown model’s success. The dark brown Molton remains in the current Main Collection, and because it is Goodyear welted, Crockett & Jones also offers refurbishment, reinforcing the boot’s appeal to collectors who buy it as both a Bond artifact and a long-term wearer.
