The scene

In the Matera pre-title sequence of No Time to Die, James Bond leaves Madeleine Swann and walks into the cemetery built for Vesper Lynd’s grave, a set staged against the southern Italian landscape used to create the film’s fictional Civita Lucana. He moves alone through the dusty hillside burial ground in a dark suit and Drake's Crosby Moc-Toe Chukka Boot, approaching the tomb in silence after Madeleine has urged him to confront the past. The visit is brief but intimate: Bond reaches the grave, lingers over the inscription, and then the stillness breaks when he discovers a SPECTRE message and the tomb erupts, sending him from mourning into immediate flight and beginning the Matera escape.

The boots matter because this is one of the film’s clearest examples of Bond being dressed down rather than armored up. Costume designer Suttirat Anne Larlarb said the clothes in No Time to Die were always meant to be extensions of character, emotion, and location, and Daniel Craig discussed Bond’s wardrobe closely with her.

Drake’s creative director Michael Hill described the Crosby as combining the versatility of a suede chukka with a distinctive moc-toe, while coverage of the film noted Craig’s own input into his final Bond wardrobe. On screen, the boots read as practical and tactile against pale stone and loose earth. Their dark suede and crepe-soled profile sit low in the frame as Bond crosses the cemetery, grounding him in the heat and texture of Matera before the explosion turns that measured walk into violent motion.

Drake’s, the London menswear and haberdashery house founded by Michael Drake in East London in 1977, first made its name with scarves, shawls, ties, and handkerchiefs before broadening into a fuller wardrobe built around what the company calls “relaxed elegance.” That expansion eventually included footwear, with the Crosby becoming one of the label’s established chukka styles and, by Drake’s own account, a bestseller. The model takes its name from the location of the brand’s first New York store. The Crosby Moc-Toe Chukka Boot is made in Italy and built as a three-eyelet chukka with moccasin-style stitching around the vamp. Drake’s describes it as a sibling to the Clifford Desert Boot, sharing the same easy, versatile spirit while adding a more rugged toe treatment.

Official product notes specify suede uppers, an unlined interior, and a rubber crepe sole, a combination that keeps the boot soft, flexible, and casual. Drake’s has also recommended sizing up by a half-size on current retail listings. In No Time to Die, the Dark Brown Suede version is worn by Daniel Craig as James Bond in the Matera scenes, including the cemetery visit and the action that follows. Bond-focused wardrobe references identified the boot from set photography and trailer close-ups, and Drake’s itself has nodded to the connection by describing the Crosby as a favorite worn by “the odd secret agent.”

Its mix of dark suede and pale crepe sole fits the grounded, workmanlike mood of Bond’s clothing in Matera rather than pushing the outfit toward formal dress. The boot has had a healthy afterlife beyond the film. Drake’s has continued to sell the Crosby in multiple suede finishes, including dark, black, tobacco, and roughout variations, and has presented it as a core part of its footwear range. That continued availability, together with the Bond association, has kept the model visible among collectors and style-minded viewers looking for one of the more understated shoes in Craig’s final 007 wardrobe.
