Rainbow-Stripe Cashmere Sweater

Eleanor Shellstrop in The Good Place, 2016 — as worn by Kristen Bell

Eleanor Shellstrop wears the AQUA Rainbow-Stripe Cashmere Sweater in The Good Place’s series finale, “Whenever You’re Ready,” during the episode’s long coda in the actual Good Place.

The scene

Eleanor Shellstrop wears the AQUA Rainbow-Stripe Cashmere Sweater in The Good Place’s series finale, “Whenever You’re Ready,” during the episode’s long coda in the actual Good Place. By this point, the new afterlife system is already in place, and the story has shifted from fixing the universe to living inside the calm that follows. The sweater appears as Eleanor spends that final stretch with Chidi, Janet, Michael, Tahani, Jason, and familiar figures from Earth, moving through dinners, conversations, and the increasingly quiet rituals of farewell.

In these scenes, the show lets her exist in a state very different from the frantic problem-solving that defined so much of her arc: present, watchful, and slowly accepting that completion can arrive even in paradise. That choice of knitwear suits where Eleanor has landed emotionally. Coverage around the finale repeatedly framed her ending as bittersweet rather than triumphant, centered on learning to let go of Chidi and the others once they are ready to leave. Against that emotional register, the sweater’s rainbow bands keep some of Eleanor’s irreverent brightness intact while softening it into something settled and humane.

It reads less like a punchline than a visual sign of the character’s hard-won ease. On screen, the sweater is easy to pick out because the finale favors a serene, high-key look: open air, pale surroundings, greenery, and warm daylight. The cream base catches that light cleanly, while the horizontal stripes give Eleanor a gentle pop of color in group scenes built around stillness, listening, and goodbye.

Archive — the object

AQUA is Bloomingdale’s in-house fashion label, and Bloomingdale’s described its cashmere line as having been made for more than 20 years from yarns sourced in Inner Mongolia. On the retailer’s product page, the sweater was sold as the “100% Cashmere Rainbow Athletic Stripe Sweater - Exclusive,” placing it squarely within the store’s long-running program of Bloomingdale’s-only AQUA cashmere pieces rather than as a third-party designer import. The sweater is a fine-gauge crewneck pullover in 100% cashmere with a ribbed neckline, ribbed cuffs, and a ribbed hemline, plus long sleeves finished with the same sporty striping that runs across the body.

Bloomingdale’s presented it on a light neutral ground with vivid multicolored horizontal “athletic” bands, a combination that gives a classic cashmere silhouette a brighter, more graphic look. The retailer also marked it as imported and listed it under Web ID 5103569. That exact style was matched to Eleanor Shellstrop in The Good Place, Season 4, Episode 13, “Whenever You’re Ready,” with costume-tracking sites identifying it as the Rainbow-Stripe Cashmere Sweater by Aqua and linking it directly to the Bloomingdale’s listing. WornOnTV logged the sighting when the finale aired in January 2020 and preserved the original retail price of $198, which aligns with Bloomingdale’s own listing.

The sweater has since disappeared from active retail at Bloomingdale’s, where the page now reads unavailable, but it has not vanished from circulation. Its afterlife is mostly secondhand, and the surviving product page shows an unusually strong customer response for a house-label knit, with a 4. 5 rating from 36 reviews. That combination of finale recognition, a clearly documented retailer exclusive, and limited current availability has made it the kind of recent TV knitwear piece collectors now tend to hunt through resale listings rather than stores.
