All Is Lost

Robert Redford is left almost wordless in J.C. Chandor’s spare survival drama, a film that strips things back to movement, weather, and the stubborn business of staying afloat. As the lone sailor known only as Our Man, he has little to lean on beyond instinct and whatever can be salvaged from a damaged boat. Among those few essentials is a blue, red, and silver Seiko SKX009, worn throughout and doing what good kit should: looking unshowy, taking the knocks, keeping time. It fits the film’s mood exactly, practical to the core and quietly exposed to the elements.
