1995 — The wardrobe & objects
Featuring Elinor Dashwood
In the opening Norland Park passages of Ang Lee’s 1995 Sense and Sensibility, Elinor Dashwood is seen in a light purple Empire-waist day dress, moving through a house still kept in the rituals of wealth and mourning. It suits her exactly: restrained, polished, and just faintly vulnerable beneath the good breeding. The dress sits among the fading formalities of Norland, where the Dashwoods are still half at home, before circumstance sends them on to Barton Cottage. A quiet piece, and telling for it.
