Mission: Impossible

Brian De Palma’s Mission: Impossible wears its tailoring with the same nerve as its plot. As Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise moves through the film’s middle act in a black Hepworths leather blazer, a hard-edged piece that suits a story shifting from Prague’s botched opening operation into the London passages. It is a sharp, unshowy choice for a man suddenly learning how fast a life can unravel. The blazer gives Hunt a little armour, though not enough to settle anything for long.
