Casablanca

On the fog-bound airfield, the last scene of Casablanca is all hard decisions and soft edges. Rick Blaine arrives in his light tan trench coat, a plain, practical silhouette against the mist, while Ilsa Lund stands beside him in a light-colored coat, with Victor Laszlo and Captain Renault nearby and the Electra waiting beyond. It is a farewell staged in near darkness, where the clothes do some of the talking and the air does the rest. Nothing shouts, but everything lands.
